Fourth-ranked Apollon Patras (17-9) gave a tough game to first ranked Peristeri GS (25-1) on Wednesday. The visitors from Athens managed to secure only two-point victory 82-80. However their fans expected easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. American-Bulgarian point guard Keydren Clark (180-84, college: St.Peter's) scored 18 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Vassilis Symtsak (205-81) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Peristeri GS's coach Nikos Karagiannis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Naturalized Israeli guard Marios Matalon (186-89, college: Wyoming) responded with 18 points and 6 assists and center Costis Gontikas (206-94, college: New York U.) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Five Apollon Patras players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Peristeri GS maintains first position with 25-1 record. Apollon Patras at the other side keeps the fourth place with nine games lost. Peristeri GS are looking forward to face Iraklis (#3) in Thessaloniki in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Apollon Patras will play at home against Kastoria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
