Regular Season Round 30: Estudiantes L. - Ponferrada CDP 87-82

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Estudiantes L. (14-14) won against 7th ranked Ponferrada CDP (14-14) in Lugo 87-82 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ponferrada CDP won third quarter 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Estudiantes L. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Ponferrada CDP was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Jose Antonio Lopez (190-96) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Senegalese forward Mor Niang (201-99) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American swingman Chris Sterling (196, college: Ariz.Christian) replied with 22 points and 6 assists and Brazilian center Dida Pereira (203-92, college: Sequoias CC) added 14 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Ponferrada CDP. Four Estudiantes L. and five Ponferrada CDP players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes L. moved-up to seventh place in Group A-B, which they share with Ponferrada CDP and Innova Chef. Estudiantes L. will face Obradoiro II (#14) in Santiago de Comp in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
