Regular Season Round 28: Unicaja - FC Barcelona 80-78

The most exciting game of round 28 in the Liga Endesa took place in Malaga. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd ranked FC Barcelona (19-9) to fifth ranked Unicaja Malaga (17-11) 80-78 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded FC Barcelona 31-20 including 19 on the defensive glass. Unicaja Malaga looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Carlos Suarez (203-86, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 15 points and 7 assists for the winners. French point guard Thomas Heurtel (189-89, agency: BeoBasket) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 assists and Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for FC Barcelona. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Unicaja Malaga have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 17-11 record. FC Barcelona at the other side keeps the third place with nine games lost. They share the position with Valencia. Unicaja Malaga are looking forward to face higher ranked Valencia Basket (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. FC Barcelona will play against Gipuzkoa and is hoping to win this game.
