Second Stage Round 7: BC Timisoara - UBT Cluj Napoca 83-79

There was a minor upset when much higher ranked UBT Cluj Napoca (21-9) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked BC Timisoara (18-12) 83-79 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But UBT Cluj Napoca won third quarter 25-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBT Cluj Napoca was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. Cuban-American center Adrian Diaz (213-93, college: FIU) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Serbian guard Mladen Jeremic (198-88, agency: 011 Sports) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Slovenian Miha Lapornik (194-93) produced 20 points and international point guard Giordan Watson (178-85, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: BeoBasket) added 19 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. BC Timisoara maintains fifth place in Nationala with 18-12 record. Defending champion UBT Cluj Napoca dropped to the third position with nine games lost. BC Timisoara will face league's second-placed Steaua CSM in Bucuresti in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. UBT Cluj Napoca will play at home against Pitesti and hope to win that game.
