Regular Season Round 29: Real Betis - Gran Canaria 76-77

Date: April 22, 2018
Eighteenth-ranked Real Betis (7-22) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Gran Canaria (17-12) in Sevilla on Sunday. The visitors from Las Palmas managed to secure only one-point victory 77-76. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 24-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was international point guard Albert Oliver (187-78) who scored 15 points. Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 15 points. Swiss-American guard Askia Booker (186-93, college: Colorado) produced 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Czech swingman Blake Schilb (201-83, college: Loyola, IL, agency: BeoBasket) added 13 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gran Canaria moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Unicaja and Andorra. Real Betis lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 22 games lost. Gran Canaria will meet at home CB Canarias (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Real Betis will play against Zaragoza (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
