Not a big story in a game in Kaunas where 7th ranked Nevezis (12-24) was rolled over by second ranked Zalgiris (28-4) 91-72. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Nevezis was better in third quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 32. They outrebounded Nevezis 36-24 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who scored that evening 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Zalgiris' coach Sarunas Jasikevicius used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 22 points by Russian Aleksandr Zakharov (203-93) did not help to save the game for Nevezis. American point guard Lester Medford (178-93, college: Baylor, agency: 3Eye) added 11 points and 6 assists for the guests. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 28-4 record behind leader Lietuvos rytas. Nevezis at the other side dropped to the eighth place with 24 games lost. Zalgiris will play against Lietkabelis (#4) in Panevezys in the next round. Nevezis will play on the road against the league's leader Lietuvos rytas (#1) in Vilnius and hopes to get back on the winning track.
