Regular Season Round 28: Maccabi T-A - Hapoel T-A 90-82
Date: May 3, 2018
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tel-Aviv: Maccabi T-A (#1) and Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#6). Maccabi T-A (19-9) won against visiting Hapoel Tel-Aviv (15-13) 90-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hapoel Tel-Aviv. It looked good early as Hapoel Tel-Aviv took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi T-A had a 24-20 second period charge getting the lead and Hapoel Tel-Aviv was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-90. The winners were led by the former international center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and American point guard Pierre Jackson (180-91, college: Baylor) supported him with 14 points and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Matt Howard (203-89, college: Butler) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Tel-Aviv. The former international Raviv Limonad (191-84) added 17 points and 7 assists for lost side. Five Hapoel Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A maintains first position with 19-9 record. Hapoel Tel-Aviv at the other side keeps the sixth place with 13 games lost. Maccabi T-A will play against Hapoel Eilat (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against the league's second-placed Hapoel Jerusalem and hopes to get back on the winning track.
