Regular Season Round 18: Tijuana - Guasave 100-87

The game between third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (11-6) and 7th ranked Frayles de Guasave (9-9) in Tijuana on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Tijuana Zonkeys beat guests from Guasave 100-87. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Canadian forward Marvell Waithe (205-87, college: Arkansas) notched 32 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all seven shots !!!) to lead the effort and naturalized American swingman Karim Scott (196-88) supported him with 18 points and 6 assists. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach James Penny used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for Frayles de Guasave. His fellow American import forward Eric Frederick (203-88, college: Texas Wesleyan) added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to second place, which they share with Guaymas and Navolato. Loser Frayles de Guasave keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet at home bottom-ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Frayles de Guasave will have a break next round.
