Regular Season Round 9: Toowoomba M. - SW Metro P. 74-84

Very predictable result when seventh ranked South West Metro Pirates (2-1) beat on the road bottom-ranked Toowoomba Mountaineers (0-2) 84-74 on Saturday. South West Metro Pirates forced 19 Toowoomba Mountaineers turnovers. Toowoomba Mountaineers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American guard Princeton Onwas (198-93, college: San Jose St.) who had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Forward Jarred Bairstow (201-92, college: Cent.Oklahoma) chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Damon Bozeman (190, college: Saginaw Valley) who recorded a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and forward Josh Derksen (206-95, college: Ky Wesleyan) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. South West Metro Pirates moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Toowoomba Mountaineers still closes the standings with two games lost. South West Metro Pirates will face higher ranked Sunshine CR (#5) in Sippy Downs in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toowoomba Mountaineers will play on the road against Gladstone Port City Power (#11) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
