The game in Las Palmas supposed to be also quite interesting. 5th ranked Unicaja Malaga (18-13) played at the court of sixth ranked Gran Canaria (18-13). Gran Canaria smashed Unicaja Malaga 76-55 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Unicaja Malaga managed to win third quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Unicaja Malaga to just 6 points in second quarter. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Unicaja Malaga's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) who led the winners and scored 16 points. Czech center Ondrej Balvin (217-92, agency: Octagon Europe) accounted for 12 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) came up with 10 points and the former international forward Daniel Diez (202-93) added 11 points respectively for Unicaja Malaga in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Unicaja. Gran Canaria will meet Burgos (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unicaja Malaga will play against Zaragoza (#16) and hope to secure a win.
