Regular Season Round 6: Alaska Aces - SM Beermen 105-103

Bottom-ranked SM Beermen (0-3) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 105-103 loss to third ranked Alaska Aces (4-1) in Makati on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Alaska Aces forced 20 SM Beermen turnovers and outrebounded them 57-46 including a 23-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Alaska Aces looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Point guard Christopher Banchero (186-90, college: Seattle Pacific) scored 15 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Vic Manuel (193-87) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-89, college: Hawaii) scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. Five Alaska Aces and four SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Alaska Aces have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with TNT Ka Tropa. Defending champion SM Beermen still closes the standings with three games lost. Alaska Aces will meet Global Port (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. SM Beermen will play against Phoenix in Quezon and hopes to get finally their first victory.
