Rather expected game when 9th ranked Zgierz (3-4) lost to sixth ranked Pyra (5-2) in Poznan 78-82 on Wednesday. Pyra forced 25 Zgierz turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Marcin Flieger (185-1984) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 4 assists. Przemyslaw Szymanski (198-1984) accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Hubert Lewandowski (192-1997) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and naturalized British forward Sebastian Ferenc (206-1995, college: Missouri S&T) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Zgierz in the defeat. Five Pyra and four Zgierz players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Pyra moved-up to third place, which they share with 7 other teams. Newly promoted Zgierz dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Pyra will meet Notec Inowr. (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zgierz will play against SMS PZKosz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
