Regular Season Round 5: Eleftheroupoli - Iraklis 67-88

The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest Iraklis' (4-1) easy road victory over 4th placed Eleftheroupoli (3-2) 88-67 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Iraklis outrebounded Eleftheroupoli 35-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Dutch Nikos Paparegkas (200-1994) who scored 27 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Dimitris Charitopoulos (205-1983) chipped in 4 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Dimitris Gravas (203-1993) produced 19 points and American point guard Johnathan Hudson (180-1987, college: Texas A&M) added 17 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Iraklis have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Maroussi and Panerythraikos. Eleftheroupoli at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Iraklis is looking forward to face FEA Filadelfeia (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Eleftheroupoli will play against Amyntas (#14) in Athens and is hoping to win this game.
