Regular Season Round 5: Ionikos - Olympiacos 81-107

GBL top team - Olympiacos (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Ionikos (1-4) in Aigaleo 107-81. Olympiacos dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Ionikos' 22 and made 25-of-28 free shots (89.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Ionikos 38-21 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-1995) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). American guard Isaiah Canaan (183-1991, college: Murray St.) contributed with 15 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. Olympiacos' coach Georgios Bartzokas felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-1984) answered with 20 points and American forward Deontae Hawkins (203-1993, college: Boston Coll., agency: Slash Sports) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Ionikos. Five Ionikos players scored in double figures. Olympiacos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Ionikos lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Apollon P.. Olympiacos are looking forward to face Kolossos HH (#8) in Rodou in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ionikos will play on the road against the league's second-placed AEK in Athens and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
