Regular Season Round 6: Saule - Marijampoles 81-68

There was no surprise in Siauliai where bottom-ranked Marijampoles (0-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Saule (5-2) 81-68 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Saule. Marijampoles managed to win third quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saule dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Marijampoles' 22. Saule forced 19 Marijampoles turnovers and outrebounded them 49-32 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Deividas Zukauskas (162-2005) who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Joris Kacinskas (-2005) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Adrijus Janciauskas (181-2005) who recorded 18 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Augustas Merkys (194-2005) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Saule have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Marijampoles still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Birzu. Saule will meet bottom-ranked Plunges (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Marijampoles will play against Birzu and hopes to get finally their first victory.
