Regular Season Round 12: Bogazici - Izmit 82-87

The biggest surprise of round 12 was guest Izmit's (8-4) road victory over Bogazici (#6) 87-82 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bogazici. Izmit looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Izmit made 8 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Bogazici helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Kym Royster (188-1997, college: Indiana) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Deniz Aygul (186-1995) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Royster is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Izmit players scored in double figures. Izmit's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Ukrainian center Olena Stashchuk (192-1985) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds and Gamze Dulegoz (-1996) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Izmit moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Elazig Il and Kirklareli. Newly promoted Bogazici dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Edremit. Izmit is looking forward to face league's leader Tarsus in Mersin in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Bogazici will play on the road against Emlak 2 (#10) in Istanbul and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
