Regular Season Round 9: Gran Canaria - Bembibre 82-80

A very close game took place in Las Palmas between Gran Canaria and Bembibre. Fourteenth ranked Gran Canaria (4-6) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Bembibre (4-6). Gran Canaria managed to escape with a 2-point win 82-80 in the game for the ninth place. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Bembibre's 24. They outrebounded Bembibre 40-27 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Czech guard Petra Holesinska (178-1997, college: UNC) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Ainhoa Lacorzana (179-2000) who recorded 17 points and Finnish forward Anniina Aijanen (188-1995, college: Xavier) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Bembibre's coach Pepe Vazquez tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gran Canaria moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Bembibre. Gran Canaria will meet at home higher ranked Ensino (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bembibre will play against Cadi La Seu and hope to secure a win.
