Regular Season Round 8: Olympiacos - Panathinaikos 68-66

The most exciting game of round 8 in the GBL took place in Piraeus. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th ranked Panathinaikos (5-2) to top-ranked Olympiacos (8-0) 68-66 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. Cypriot-Bulgarian forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-1995) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 7 rebounds. French center Moustapha Fall (216-1992) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American Dwayne Bacon (201-1995, college: FSU) replied with 20 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Nate Wolters (193-1991, college: S.Dakota St., agency: Pensack Sports) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Panathinaikos. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Olympiacos have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-0 record. Panathinaikos at the other side keeps the fourth place with two games lost. Olympiacos are looking forward to face PAOK (#5) in Thessaloniki in the next round. Panathinaikos' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens AEK.
