Very expected game in Aigaleo where 10th ranked Ionikos (2-7) was defeated by fifth ranked Aris (6-3) 97-90 on Sunday. Aris dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Ionikos' 24. Aris forced 24 Ionikos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Vasileios Toliopoulos (186-1996) who scored 26 points. American forward Chevez Goodwin (206-1998, college: USC) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Four Aris players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-1984) who recorded 31 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Vangelis Mantzaris (196-1990) added 15 points and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aris have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with AEK. Loser Ionikos keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. Aris will meet at home Kolossos HH (#8) in the next round. Ionikos will play against Lavrio and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
