Regular Season Round 25: Stekas - Vilkaviskis 87-90

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Vilkaviskis (8-16) edged 9th ranked Stekas (9-16) in Vilnius 90-87 on Thursday. Vilkaviskis made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Stekas outrebounded Vilkaviskis 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. Modestas Zaunieriunas (189-1994) nailed 30 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winning side and Klaidas Metrikis (204-2000) accounted for 21 points. Vilkaviskis' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Point guard Paulius Semaska (184-1993) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists and swingman Tadas Rinkunas (195-1991) added 20 points respectively for Stekas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vilkaviskis maintains twelfth place with 8-16 record. Stekas lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Palanga. Vilkaviskis will meet at home higher ranked Delikatesas (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Stekas will play against Neptunas-Akv. in Klaipeda and hope to secure a win.
