The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Girona as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Girona smashed 13th ranked Gran Canaria at home 85-66. American guard Rebekah Gardner (185-1990, college: UCLA) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import point guard Brittney Sykes (175-1994, college: Syracuse) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Four Girona players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2002) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Tyler Scaife (175-1994, college: Rutgers) scored 23 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Gran Canaria lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 14 games lost. Gran Canaria will play next round against strong Zaragoza trying to get back on the winning streak. Girona will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Avenida in Salamanca.
