Regular Season Round 19: HNMKY - Kipina 87-97

The biggest surprise of round 19 was guest Kipina's (12-7) road victory over 4th placed HNMKY (11-8) 97-87 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of HNMKY. The game was mostly controlled by Kipina. HNMKY managed to win third quarter 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to HNMKY's 30 and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Kipina looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Chris Paul (199, college: St.Anselm) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import guard Brian Cameron (188-1997, college: Wesley) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists. Cameron is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Kipina players scored in double figures. Point guard Lenni Hervola (179-2003) produced 36 points (!!!) and guard Samuli Makela (178-1999) added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. HNMKY's coach Timo Saukkola rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Kipina have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. HNMKY at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Kipina are looking forward to face Kouvot Ak. (#11) in Kouvola in the next round and are hoping to win another game. HNMKY will play on the road against Huima (#3) in Aanekoski and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
