Everything went according to plan when twelfth ranked Miast Szkla (14-16) defeated 16th ranked Polonia (9-22) in Bytom 85-80 on Saturday. Miast Szkla dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Polonia's 34. They outrebounded Polonia 41-29 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Latvian center Klavs Dubults (206-1996) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Michal Jankowski (191-1987, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Miast Szkla's coach Edmunds Valeiko allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Alphonso Willis (188-1998, college: A&M-Commerce) came up with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and Damian Szczepanik (198-1997) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Polonia in the defeat. Miast Szkla moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with WKK Wroclaw. Newly promoted Polonia keeps the sixteenth position with 22 games lost. Miast Szkla will meet at home Enea Basket (#13) in the next round. Polonia will play against Slask in Wroclaw and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
