There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked RO SAzzurra (8-15) edged 8th ranked Matelica (12-11) in Roma 59-58 on Saturday. North Macedonian forward Matea Nikolic (190-2002, college: Kansas) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Czech Emilie Brzonova (181-2006) supported her with 14 points. Even 16 points and 5 rebounds by forward Martina Grassia (180-2001) did not help to save the game for Matelica. Point guard Benedetta Gramaccioni (174-1998) added 11 points and 4 steals for lost side. Matelica's coach Orazio Cutugno rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted RO SAzzurra maintains eleventh position with 8-15 record, which they share with Bolzano BC. Matelica lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Savona. RO SAzzurra will meet Vigarano (#12) on the road in the next round. Matelica will play against Roseto (#14) and hope to secure a win.
