Regular Season Round 21: Kavkasia - Olimpi 109-78

Top ranked Olimpi (14-4) recorded its fourth loss in Tbilisi on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by third ranked Kavkasia (13-6) 109-78. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Olimpi. The game was mostly controlled by Kavkasia. Olimpi managed to win third quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kavkasia dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpi's 36. They outrebounded Olimpi 49-31 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kavkasia looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Olimpi's players. The best player for the winners was American guard Chris McNeal (185-1997, college: Cincinnati) who scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import guard Justin Forrest (188, college: App State) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. Kavkasia's coach Beqa Tsivtsivadze felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Dru Kuxhausen (183-1998, college: N.Colorado) who recorded 23 points and 6 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Vladimer Tavakarashvili (201-2002, college: Sacramento St.) added 19 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Kavkasia maintains third place with 13-6 record behind leader Olimpi. Olimpi at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They share it with Rustavi. Kavkasia are looking forward to face Batumi (#7) on the road in the next round. Olimpi will play against the league's second-placed Rustavi (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
