Regular Season Round 2: ToPo Juniorit - Kipina 85-96

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of ToPo Juniorit in Helsinki on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Kipina 96-85. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back winning next two quarters and won the game by 11 points. Kipina dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to ToPo Juniorit's 22 and made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They outrebounded ToPo Juniorit 51-28 including a 22-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kipina looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by ToPo Juniorit helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Nathaniel Pollard Jr (196-2000, college: UMES) had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assists and 9 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Coryon Mason (181-1999, college: ACU) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists during the contest. Pollard Jr. is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Eldar Skamo (198) responded with a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Ville Wuorenjuuri (188-1995) scored 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Kipina and four ToPo Juniorit players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kipina is looking forward to face Honka in Espoo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. ToPo Juniorit will play on the road against RaPy in Tampere and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
