Regular Season Round 5: Zalgiris II - Gargzdu SM 60-62

Bottom-rankedZalgiris II (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 62-60 loss to ninth ranked Gargzdu SM (2-3) in Kaunas on Tuesday evening. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-10 . But Zalgiris II won third quarter 16-15 . However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gargzdu SM forced 22 Zalgiris II turnovers and outrebounded them 50-31 including 36 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gargzdu SM made 8 blocks. Forward Juozas Virkutis (201-2006) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and Jonas Tiapkovas (-2006) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Forward Kristupas Miselis (197-2007) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Jokubas Saudargas (177-2007) scored 12 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gargzdu SM moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Druskininku and Utenos. Zalgiris II lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Alytaus.
