Very expected game when 8th rankedGiannena (7-12) was smashed by second ranked Panathinaikos (18-1) in Athens 104-69 on Sunday. Panathinaikos outrebounded Giannena 38-20 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Panathinaikos shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. American center Jillian Alleyne (190-1994, college: Oregon, agency: LBM Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Pinelopi Pavlopoulou (172-1996, college: WSU) accounted for 32 points and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Coach Eleni Kapogianni's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Georgia Damoulaki (165-2004) came up with 21 points and 8 assists and Anastasia Konstantara (168-2008) added 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Giannena in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Panathinaikos . They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos. Giannena lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos will meet Iraklis (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Giannena will play against Athinaikos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
