Semi-Finals Game 1: Tigers - Breakers 117-99
Date: February 25, 2009
Melbourne Tigers outplayed New Zealand Breakers 117-99 in the first NBL semifinal game. It means that the Tigers are now one step closer and at the same time one step away from the big final. The game ended few hours ago (Wednesday night in Australia) at the State Netball and Hockey Centre. Luke Kendall led all the scorers with 25 points. David Barlow also shined delivering 2 points less than him. Nigerian scoring machine Ebi Ere this time stopped on 22. CJ Bruton was better than the others in New Zealand Breakers scoring 22 points. Kirk Penney 19 on 7-of-17 shooting and Tony Ronaldson added 18 points. Tigers took control on their opponent from the early beginning. They had 15-point lead into half-time and never let up from that point on to eventually cruise to victory. The Breakers are known as very good shooting team, especially from behind the arc, but that area belonged to Tigers today. David Barlow, Ebi Ere and Luke Kendall were deadly from those positions. That trio combined for an impressive 12-of-18 from three-point range, with the Tigers shooting a more-than-handy 50 percent (16-of-32) from beyond the perimeter compared with 41 percent (14-of-34) from the Breakers. The second semifinal game between these two teams is scheduled for Friday. This time it will be played at the Breakers' home court.
