Semi-Finals Game 3: Den Bosch - Groningen 88-91
Date: May 7, 2009
Hanzevast Capitals Groningen seized the momentum of the game with first an 11-0 run to close out the 3rd quarter, then remained tough in the trenches in crunch time, coming up with clutch play and seizing the game, with one victory from the FEB finals with a thrilling 91-88 win over Eiffel Towers. In the 1st quarter Eiffel seized the momentum early, leading 24-14 at the end of the 1st quarter but Hanzevast fought back and remained on Eiffel's heels, with Eiffel leading 43-40 at halftime. The momentum shift would tilt towards the guests around the end of the 3rd quarter, with a three-point basket from Rogier Jansen and a basket from Chaz McCrommon sparking an 11-0 Hanzevast run. The game would remain a see-saw battle, with exchanging of baskets, Eiffel continuing to shoot the ball well from the field, as well as strong play on the glass. But Hanzevast were no slouches either, balancing things out with the radar being locked in from the three-point line (13 of 24 total). The person who would step up for Hanzevast would be sniper Will Whittington, with Whittington making a three-point dagger with 1:30 remaining and two free throws that would be murder-she-wrote for Eiffel. Whittington led six Hanzevast players in double figures with 20 pts., including 6 of 8 three-pointers. Eiffel's Anthony Richardson had another strong game, leading all scorers with 23 pts. Hanzevast took care of the ball well, committing only 8 turnovers with 16 assists, in contrast with Eiffel, who made 16 turnovers with 14 assists. On Saturday night Hanzevast has the advantage of being one win from a return trip to the FEB finals, with an expected capacity crowd in the Martiniplaza as their trump card and 6th man.
