Quarter-Finals Round 3: Cleveland C. - Atlanta H. 97-82

Date: May 9, 2009
The sellout crowd was on its feet. There were jaw-dropping blocks, along with shots and fast breaks only the Hawks make in this building. It fueled Atlanta for a magical four-minute stretch of the third quarter Saturday night, breathing life into a team and the mythical reputation the Hawks have built on their home floor during the playoffs in the past two seasons. But it didn’t last. Not long enough for the Hawks to foil the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at Philips Arena. And certainly not long enough to keep LeBron James from powering the Cavaliers to a 97-82 win and a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is here Monday night. James finished with 47 points, one shy of his playoff career-high, shredding the Hawks early, often and especially in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers regained their dominance over a team they beat by a combined 47 points in Games 1 and 2 in Cleveland.
