NBA
Quarter-Finals Round 6: LA Lakers - Houston R. 80-95
Date: May 14, 2009
Kobe Bryant scored 32 points, but the series heads back to Staples Center on Sunday. The road to the NBA championship that the Lakers so desire has ran into a roadblock in the Western Conference semifinals. Some of it has been placed there by their own inequities, some of placed there by a stubborn, depleted Houston Rockets team that has played with the energy and effort the Lakers can't seem to conjure up frequently enough. It will take the Lakers seven games to get rid of these pesky Rockets because L.A. failed to do it Thursday night, losing, 95-80, to Houston in Game 6 of the best-of-seven series at the loud Toyota Center. Because the Lakers were unable to close out the Rockets in six games, both teams will go at it again Sunday at Staples Center. Pau Gasol had 14 points and 11 rebounds, but he was not a force. Jordan Farmar had 13 points off the bench for the Lakers and was solid. On defense, the Lakers showed very little resistance, their inconsistent ways popping up yet again. The Rockets made 50.7% of their shots, 38.9% (seven-for-18) of their three-pointers. Aaron Brooks led the Rockets with 26 points on eight-for-13 shooting. Luis Scola had a playoff career-high 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
