The host of FIBA Americas Championship celebrated in its first appearance. The Puerto Ricans were too strong for Mexico jumping to 1-0 in Group A. Participants of the same pool also are Uruguay, US Virgins Islands and Canada. Larry Elias Ayuso top-scored for the winners with 16 points. Carlos Arroyo had 15 points and 11 assists, while Daniel Santiago collected 15 points and 11 boards. In Mexico, Romel Beck drained 26 points. Noe Alonzo had 11 and Horacio Llamas contributes with one point less. Tomorrow, Puerto Rico will play against US Virgins Islands. Mexico will meet Canada.
