Mexico was better than US Virgins Islands registering the first win on FIBA Americas Championship 2009. Mexico appeared 3 times so far in San Juan and with this win booked a spot for the next stage. US Virgins Islands finished Preliminary Stage winless. Mexico had five scorers in double figures, they were Anthony Pedroza along with Omar Quintero with 17 each, Noe Alonzo with Gustavon Ayon had 16 each and Horacio Llamas netted 10 points, had 8 boards and dished 7 assists. US Virgin Islands got 18 points from Kevin Sheppard. Mexico will play one more game in Preliminary Round and after with Canada, Puerto Rico and Uruguay will move to Quarterfinal Round.
