Penarol eased past Espartanos for the initial victory in Liga Americas Final Four. Leonardo Gutierrez scored 20 points to lead the charge. Penarol will next take on Quimsa, while Espartanos will try to bounce back against Halcones Xalapa. Penarol got to a sizzling start of the encounter. They poured in 32 points in the first quarter taking a 15-point advantage. Espartanos however responded with a 12:2 run in the second period and gained control. The Venezuelan team trimmed the deficit at 9 points twenty minutes into the clash. The teams traded baskets eagerly in the third frame. Penarol maintained the gap and headed into the fourth stanza up by as many as 11 points. The Argentinean team went on an 8:1 run in the fourth quarter and secured the winning outcome at the end. Martin Leiva finished with 17 points for Penarol. Pablo Sebastian Rodriguez had 11 points and 8 assists for the winners. Kevin Freeman responded with 16 points for Espartanos. Hector Romero delivered 15 points in defeat.
