Regular Season Round 18: Panathinaikos - Olympiacos 98-90
Date: February 28, 2010
In a do or die game Panathinaikos Athens had a deadly triplet in the peripheral and beat Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus in a game that reached the difference in some parts of the game to the 19 points. Andrew Nicholas was the top scorer of the match in his best game since he arrived in Greece, with the green jersey of Panathinaikos Athens, the American guard scored 27 points with great percentages in the three pointers (he scored 7 out of 12) while the MVP of the game was most definetely Dimitris Diamantidis who scored 26 points 11 assists!, 7 rebounds 2 steals and a great defense, while Vassilis Spanoulis scored 22 points but he was the 'brain' of the team and of the derby. On the other hand, the American NBAer Josh Childress (203-G/F-83, college: Stanford) tried to beat Panathinaikos Athens by himself as he was the only real thread for last years triple crowners. Josh Childress scored 26 points followed by Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-C-85) with 18 points and Nikola Vujcic who scored 15 while the top performer for the Reds during the last month, Milos Teodosic scored only 6 points mainly due to the amazing defense of Diamantidis and Tepic. Panathinaikos Athens succeeded a great victory having in mind that in less than five days lost the two out of three most important games of the season but found the psychological strength to win the game against Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus and basically sealed the top position of the regular season. The Greens are now in the +2 from Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus and only with a small miracle Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus will be able to get a better place than the second. The game was most probably the best game in the last decade for the two teams. It is worth mentioning that Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus played without two of his top performers, as Both Bourousis and Kleiza didn't play, Bourousis due to flu and Kleiza due to injury. On the other hand, Jasikevicius was on the bench but never enter the court while three minutes before the end of the game the American power forward of Panathinaikos Athens, Marcus Haislip. *by Chris Mammides
