Finals Game 3: Rochester R. - Z*Lawton Ft.SC 108-126

In a showdown of two back-to-back champs, the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry captured their first Premier Basketball League title on Tuesday night, defeating the Rochester RazorSharks 126-108 in the decisive third game of the championship series. In Lawton, Okla., the host Cavalry carried a 56-45 edge into halftime and then extended their lead to 16 points after three quarters. Rochester, vying for its third PBL crown in a row, won the series opener 110-106 in overtime on its home court but Lawton-Fort Sill drew even with a 95-84 victory in Game 2 at Great Plains Coliseum. Elvin Mims’ 26 points led six double-figure scorers for the Cavalry, which advanced to the final with a two-game semifinal sweep of the Halifax Rainmen. Eddie Smith added 23 and Brandon Dean 19. Derik Hollyfield was the RazorSharks’ top scorer with 24 points. The Cavalry, who topped the regular-season standings with an 18-2 mark, swept the Halifax Rainmen in two games in their best-of-three semifinal series.
