Preliminary Round Day 2: MEXICO - COSTA RICA 78-40

First win for Mexico at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Colorado Springs. After this victory Mexico joined Chile with 1-1 record in Group A. Their game in Day Three will decide which of these two teams will advance to Semifinals. And not only that, as the semifinalists will automatically book a ticket for 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship. Laura Nunez paced the Mexicans to win with double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds. She reached an amazing valuation 40 and of course was the MVP of this meeting. Ana Noriega (5 rebs) and Andrea Medina helped with 15 and 13 points respectively. In Costa Rica, Michelle Mayorga collected 12 points and 5 boards. They dropped to 0-2 with no chance to reach the next stage. After the first quarter it was already clear that Mexicans will take this one. They made 21-9 in the opening period and for rest of the time in the first half reached comfortable 43-19 lead. In Q3, Mexico totally destroyed Costa Rica with huge 25-5. Mexico had victory in their pocket and slowed down for rest of the game. As mentioned above, Mexico will meet Chile in Day Three and it will be a crucial game for both teams. Costa Rica will meet strong Canada with no chance for victory.
