Finals Game 5: Arecibo - Bayamon 71-76

The Bayamon cowboys won a hard fought game as they beat the Captains 76-71. The cowboys opened the game with a 7-0 run. The cowboys did not have in uniform, Javier Mojica who suffered a hand injury in the last game; he was replaced by Raymond Barbosa. From the opening toss the cowboys showed a lot of energy in this first quarter, with 5:25 to go in the quarter the Cowboys were up by 9 points, 13-4. Larry Ayuso got hot in the final minutes and scored 11 points as he brought the Captains back into the game as the quarter ended 23-19 in favor of the Cowboys. In the 2nd quarter, the Captains bench players were effective and with 7:58 to go in the quarter the difference was only 1 point, 25-24. With 3:17 left in the half the score was tied at 31 points. The Cowboys managed to keep a 1 point advantage as the half came to an end 41-40. In the 3rd quarter, consecutive baskets by the Cowboys at the start of the quarter made the Captains head coach request a quick time out. Both teams remained without taking a big lead and with 3:14 the Cowboys were up by 6 points, 59-53. The quarter came to an end with the Cowboys leading 63-58. In the 4th quarter, the Cowboys made some bad shot selections in the early minutes of the quarter and a flagrant foul by Tractor Traylor gave the Captains a chance to put the game 63-61 with 7:37 to go in the game. Christian Dalmau took control down the final stretch to put the Cowboys up by 3, 68-65 with 3:25 to go in the game. The Captains made a their last run in the closing minutes but it was Christian Dalmau once again came thru for the Cowboys, he sealed the win with 2 free throws with 5 seconds left in the game. For Bayamon, Christian Dalmau scored 29 points followed by Robert Traylor and Terrence Shannon both with 12 points, Traylor also captured 15 rebounds. For Arecibo, Daniel Santiago scored 15 points followed by Larry Ayuso with 13 points. *by Luis Ramirez
