Regular Season Day 1: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - PANAMA 63-56

The host of 2010 Centrobasket Championship had a joyful Day One in Santo Domingo. Dominican Republic outplayed Panama 63-56 for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group A. Beside the above mentioned teams, other participants of the same pool are also Jamaica, British Virgins Islands and U.S. Virgins Islands. Kelvin Pena was the leading scorer in victory with 18 points and he had 6 rebounds beside that. Jack Michael Martinez was the MVP of this game with valuation 21. He spent 33 minutes on the court collecting 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Elpidio Manuel Fortuna Lara helped the Dominicans with 10 pts. In Panama, Danilo Pinnock shined with 21 points and 5 boards. He was their only player with double-digits in scoring. Panama was slightly better team at the beginning. Danilo Pinnock and his teammates opened the game with 13-16 lead in Q1. They were in control in Q2 as well jumping to nice 25-34 at the half time. However, that was all from Panama yesterday as Dominican Republic was the team who dominated during the entire second half. The Dominicans made 13-9 in third period and for the last ten minutes they smashed Panama with 25-13. That was enough for the final score of 63-56 and the first win in Santo Domingo. In Day Two, Dominican Republic will meet Jamaica. Panama will play against British Virgins Islands.
