Regular Season Day 3: U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - PANAMA 82-74

Date: July 7, 2010
The U.S. Virgins Islands outplayed Panama 82-74 for the first win in Santo Domingo. It was the second appearance for the ISV, who now has 1-1 score in Preliminary Group A. Panamanians dropped to 1-2 (same as British Virgins Islands). Walter Hodge paced the ISV to victory collecting 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. He was the MVP of this meeting with valuation 26. Jason Edwin had 18 points and 6 boards, while Aaron Brown netted 15 pts. In Panama, Danilo Pinnock was the leading player with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Jamar Warren added 12 pts and 5 boards. Second quarter was the crucial on in this game. Before that, the U.S. Virgin Islands made tiny 16-15 in the first ten minutes. Walter Hodge and his teammates exploded in the second period and totally took control on Panamanians. They intensified defense stopping Panama to just 11 points for the quarter, while they drained impressive 29 pts on the other side. Thus, ISV was huge 45-26 up at the half time and the game winner was already known. Panama was better in the second half (Q3 18-21, Q4 19-27), but still they needed a way more against tough ISV. At the end, it was totally deserved 82-74 win for ISV - first in Santo Domingo. In Day Four, the U.S. Virgin Islands will meet Jamaica and it will probably be the crucial game for both teams. Panama will have a day-off.
