Cuba destroyed Trinidad and Tobago 90-60 in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Santo Domingo. With this victory Cuba jumped to second place in Group A and advanced to Semifinals. Trinidad and Tobago ended as the last ranked team in this group with just one win in four games. Allen Jemmott was the leading player in victory with 24 points. Orestes Torres had 15 points and 7 boards, while Yudniel Perez added 13 pts. Andy Boffil helped his team with 12 points. In defeat, Ian Young top-scored with 18 points. Joel Haywood collected 13 points and 7 boards. Cuba smashed Trinidad and Tobago in the first period. Allen Jemmott and his teammates were unstoppable in offense scoring 27 points, while their rivals stopped on just 11. It was a clear signal that Cuba will take this one in style. The Cubans ended second frame with 25-20 meaning that they were 21 points up at the half time. Trinidad and Tobago was not able to resist in the second half as well. Cuba ended Q3 with 20-19 and Q4 with 18-11 for the final 90-60 victory. Cuba will meet Dominican Republic in the Semifinals. Cuba also already booked a spot for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship (Pre-Olympic).
