Finals Game 7: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - PUERTO RICO 80-89

Puerto Rico defended the Centrobasket title. Carlos Arroyo and his teammates outplayed Dominican Republic 80-89 in the Big Final in Santo Domingo. Both teams booked a spot for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship (Pre-Olympic) and the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara. Carlos Arroyo once again was the leading player in Puerto Rico as he collected 23 points and 5 assists. Jose Juan Barea scored 16 points, David Cortez had 14, while Peter John Ramos helped with 12 pts. For the hosts of 2010 Centrobasket, Charlie Villanueva exploded with 36 points and 11 rebounds. He made seven triples in this game. Jack Michael Martinez (8 rebs, 5 as) and Elpidio Fortuna added 10 points each. Last quarter was the crucial one in this meeting. Before that, Dominican Republic opened the game with decent 23-19 lead. Charlie Villanueva was on fire and mostly owing to him Dominicans made 24-20 in the second quarter for nice 47-39 lead at the half time. Puerto Rico finally improved after the breather. Carlos Arroyo stepped up for his team leading it to 17-24 in Q3. It means that Puerto Rico cut the margin to just one point before the last ten minutes and everything was open again. Puerto Rico played great when it was the most important and smashed Dominicans in the last quarter 16-26 for the final 80-89 victory and another Centrobasket title.
