Spain survived a tough physical battle against Slovenia to claim the victory at the end. They will now play for the fifth overall position at the World Championship in Turkey. Slovenia will try to earn the seventh position in tomorrows game. Jaka Lakovic opened the scoring a three-pointer. Slovenia used a 7:0 run midway through the frame to establish a 12:5 advantage. Spain did not pick up the slack as they trailed 16:23 at the first intermission. The teams traded baskets early in the second quarter. Jaka Lakovic and Samo Udrih drained triples to give Slovenia a 41:32 advantage. But Alex Mumbru notched four points in a row and Marc Gasol added two more as Spain cut the deficit at 3 points 38:41 at halftime. The teams went neck and neck throughout the third quarter. The period saw several lead changes and ties. But Juan Carlos Navarro proved the difference as he ensured a 64:62 lead for Spain heading into the fourth quarter. The teams continued to exchange the blows early in the fourth period. But a couple of three-pointers from Sergio Llull gave Spain an 81:73 advantage. The Spaniards went on a 9:0 spree to take a 93:75 lead just moments later and the game simply slipped away from the Slovenian team. Spain cruised to the win in the dying seconds. Juan Carlos Navarro provided 26 points and 7 assists for Spain. Rudy Fernandez and Fran Vazquez added 16 points apiece in the win. Goran Dragic and Jaka Lakovic produced 19 points each for Slovenia. Sani Becirovic netted 13 points in the loss.
