Regular Season Round 7: Groningen - Zwolle 91-53
Date: October 26, 2010
Tuesday night in Dutch Basketball League action, in the Martiniplaza, it was another day at te office for the defending Dutch champions GasTerra Flames Groningen, who barely broke a sweat and never had a challenge in an easy 91-53 win over Landstede Basketbal Zwolle. In the 1st quarter it was already clear which direction the wind was blowing, with the Flames taking a 1O-O lead after the 1st 5 minutes. The lead increased to 18-6 and 24-1O at the end of the 1st quarter thanks to the play of reserve forward Steve Ross. The Flames took advantage of poor pick-and-roll defense from Landstede, poor decision making, with their penetration, mainly from Matt Bauscher, creating offensive rebounding opportunities, helping the lead for Donar increase to 42-22 at the end of the half. In the 3rd quarter it was Paranormal Activity 3 for Landstede, not able to shake out of their funk, with more poor decision making and not making plays, including not being able to convert simple 2 on 1 fastbreaks. This gave Donar more opportunties, with scores from Ross and hustle plays from pogo stick Henry Bekkering giving the home crowd something to cheer about, with two three-pointers from Ross a Bekkering alley oop slam dunk the cherry on top, giving Donar the lead at 72-34 at 1:1O. Donar would increase their lead to as much as 8O-39 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th Flames head coach Marco van den Berg had the capacity to rest his starters. Ross led all scorers with 21 pts., Robby Bostain made a step in the right direction with 9 dimes. Harry Marshall led Landstede with 16 pts. Gas Terra Flames remain undefeated at 7-O while Landstede falls to 3-4, with all of their losses by big differences. *by Sanders Jackson
