Qatar victoriously opened their Asian Games campaign. The last editions vice-champions fired past India in Group F opener. Targuy Ngombo scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to pace the effort. India entered the group stage after beating Agfhanistan in the preliminaries but they could not repeat the trick with much stronger Qatar. The favorites proved the difference in the opening stanza. Qatar cleared off to a 22:9 lead after ten minutes. Qatar fired hard as they opened a 54:20 lead at the interval. They kept India at bay throughout the third term. The scoreboard read 75:38 as the teams headed into the final quarter of action. India never threaten the deficit and had to digest a sour loss at the end. Baker Ahmad Mohammed knocked down 18 points and accounted for 7 rebounds for Qatar. Saad Abdulrahman Ali netted 16 points for the winners. Hareesh Koroth answered with 24 points. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi dropped 12 points in the loss.
