Regular Season Round 25: Golden St.W. - New York K. 119-125
Date: November 19, 2010
Not long after the final horn sounded, Warriors guard Monta Ellis was gone from the locker room. He got dressed and bailed out quickly enough to escape postgame interviews. It is surprising he had enough energy for such a fast exit. Ellis had just played 46 minutes of the Warriors' 125-119 loss to the visiting New York Knicks on Friday. He carried the offense, scoring 40 points on 30 shots and adding five assists and three steals. He played the role of defensive stopper, charged with the task of slowing New York's hot hand, point guard Raymond Felton, for most of the second half. He even played emotional leader, addressing the team at halftime after the Warriors had gotten down by as many as 18 points. The Warriors managed enough offense, shooting 51.6 percent, and point guard Stephen Curry and forward Reggie Williams combined for 30 points in the fourth quarter. But their defense fell short, killing the Warriors' comeback attempt and securing their first home loss of the season. New York shot 57.1 percent. Felton finished with a career-high 35 points on 13-for-17 shooting with 11 assists. Knicks big man Amare Stoudemire finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 10 for 12. Forward Danilo Gallinari scored 23 points. *Courtesy of www.mercurynews.com
