Japan claimed another narrow victory at Asian Games in China. They nipped Philippines tonight to stay unbeaten in Group F. Takumi Ishizaki knocked down 16 points to lead the winning side. Philippines slipped at 1-2 record. Japan and Philippines teamed up for five points in the opening five minutes of the game. Philippines adjusted late in the frame as they piled up a 14:9 lead. The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter as Japan managed to erase the deficit and pull in front. Thomas Wisman team went into the dressing room leading by a single point 30:29. Japan tipped off the second half with an 8:4 run to open the bigger lead. They maintained well scoring a 48:43 advantage with ten minutes remaining. Japan led by six points midway through the final quarter but Philippines restored the intrigue when they denied the distance. But Japan stayed cool in the dying seconds and escaped with yet another last-second win at the end. Kosuke Takeuchi tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds for Japan. Yuta Tabuse notched 9 points in the victory. Marcio Lassiter replied with 13 points for Philippines. Kelly Williams chipped in 12 points and collected 12 rebounds in the loss.
