Qualifying Round Round 5: QATAR - IRAN 46-88

Iran cruised past Qatar to wrap up the Asian Games preliminary round in Group F. The victory allowed the winners occupy the second place in the standings. Iran will now take on Jordan in the quarterfinals. Qatar finished in the fourth position and they are going to take on undefeated China on Wednesday. Iran marked their ambitions in the opening frame. They played aggressive defensively limiting Qatar to only 10 points. This allowed Iran to enjoy a 27:10 lead after ten minutes. Iran continued their dominance in the second stanza. Veselin Matic team secured a 51:26 halftime advantage. Qatar scored only 10 points in the third frame and faced an insurmountable 31-point deficit at the final intermission. Iran eased to the victory in the fourth period. Hamed Afagh stepped up with 33 points to pace Iran. Mahdi Kamrani accounted for 21 points, 5 boards and 5 assists, while Asghar Kardoust had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Yasseen Musa replied with 18 points for Qatar. Targuy Ngombo finished with 13 points in the losing case.
