Regular Season Round 29: New York K. - Charlotte B. 110-107
Date: November 23, 2010
The emotions came first, then the pain and finally some combination of physical and mental fatigue. Raymond Felton pushed through it all, pushed through traffic and put himself exactly where he wanted to be. The Charlotte Bobcats had knocked a 16-point Knicks lead down to 1 by the final seconds Tuesday night. Felton had an achy back, a shaky statistical line and one last chance to beat the team that cast him aside last summer. With 2.1 seconds left, Felton stepped to the line and calmly sank two free throws, sealing a 110-107 victory at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks’ fourth in a row. The more emotional meeting will come Wednesday, when the Knicks (7-8) travel to Charlotte, where Felton played his first five seasons — not far from where he played his college career (at Chapel Hill), or from his hometown (Latta, S.C.). But this one mattered. Felton finished with 16 points and 9 assists, but he had been shaky down the stretch, with two missed shots and a costly turnover, his fourth of the night. But when he went to the line, “I was calm,” he said. The Knicks have their longest winning streak since December 2009 and are establishing themselves as a strong fourth-quarter team. In each game of the winning streak, they have taken a big lead and had to hold off a late rally. They did it Tuesday with clutch baskets by Landry Fields (14 points) and Danilo Gallinari (15 points) and a critical 4-foot jumper by Amar’e Stoudemire, who fought through foul trouble (5) and turnovers (7) to finish with 17 points and 7 rebounds. *Courtesy of www.nytimes.com
